DTE is constantly evaluating what’s best for you and Michigan’s energy needs through our programs and offerings. Because a majority of customers already have smart thermostats in their homes, we have made the decision to close the SmartCurrents program and focus on our “bring-your-own thermostat” program, Smart Savers. In addition to the same Demand Response experience you have come to expect, Smart Savers offers you a larger annual bill credit.
All SmartCurrents participants now have full ownership of their ecobee thermostats and do not need to return any equipment to DTE. If you’ve received any communications around needing to return your device to avoid a charge on your monthly bill, please ignore this communication.
If you enrolled AND installed your ecobee thermostat in 2024, you will be on the list to receive your bill credit in April 2025 when the final bill credits are distributed.
If you received a bill credit in 2024, you won't receive a bill credit in 2025, unfortunately, since the program is closing and we have not dispatched any SmartCurrents Peak Events in 2025.
Please contact our customer service line at (833) 627-2300 so we can investigate and supply the bill credit you are due if we determine that you were eligible for this incentive.
We recommend that SmartCurrents customers join Smart Savers, a similar program that will let you use your ecobee thermostat to participate in events while earning you even more with the annual $50 bill credit.
